“Adults can build sandcastles too.”
Those are the words I said today to a first grader who told me I need to be a kid to build a sandcastle.
And it’s got me thinking about joy and awe and whimsy.
It’s got me wondering if kids see adults as these robots who can no longer have fun. Who can no longer skip down the sidewalk or giggle obnoxiously or ask too many questions.
It’s got me wondering if I see myself that way.
And I know I don’t want to.
I want the joy and the awe and the whimsy.
I want the sidewalk skips and the obnoxious giggles and the curious questions.
I want to get extra sprinkles on my ice cream and dance in the rain and laugh till my stomach hurts.
I want the child inside of me to live.
And she wants to build a sandcastle too.
