The Sun Will Rise

By

Feelings are familiar friends,

Though they aren’t always invited.

Sometimes they come and go as they please.

Sometimes they knock on the door.

And other times they barge right in.

Uninvited and unexpected.

Feelings are familiar,

But I am learning to appreciate facts too.

The fact that tomorrow the sun will rise,

And its light will illuminate a new day.

The fact that every dark night will bleed into a bright morning.

The fact that hope can be my choice,

Even when hopelessness begs to come through my door and sit at the table.

The fact that I am alive and breathing.

It’s a process, but I am learning that facts matter,

And they need a seat at my table too.
